|  This week: "Get me a domain!" 9-11-98
Sailormoon.com! HinoRei.com! Sailorjupiter.com! Your own domain... you want one (if
you don't already have one) and you know it... really cool... if only they weren't so
expensive. It could bring you lots of popularity and a lot of webspace, it'll even make
you feel superior in a way! Unfortunately, only a few people can afford them, even only a
few people can afford a subdomain! Well, it's absolutely alright, no problem with that.
Well... unfortunately, one problem heads towards it. Those advertisement ads on
pages. Cute little clever way of getting money without sitting outside on a rainy day behind
a lemonade stand. Problem is, on a free homepage website? Like Geocities? Yes, I've seen
it on several GC pages... sad, really. And most of those sites don't really impress me
either. But the point is, the GC guidelines state that sponsorship banners (except for
LE and the Geoguide) violate the GC guidelines. In other words, if you're makin' money off
of their FREE webspace, you're breaking their rules. No, I've never been a fan of GC or
really lil' miss perfect GC homesteader. But, if you think... here you are, on a free
HP program and profitting off of it? Don't you feel a little sick about the
whole thing, at all?
Not only that, did you forget what the theme of your website was? Bishoujo Senshi
Sailormoon! And don't tell me that you never knew the anime was copyrighted or anything...
did you forget that fan pages are non-profit. Did you write your little disclaimer and
"please don't sue me" stuff and forget to read it over? You're profitting off of an
anime series! Sure, you say the money goes for a domain, but still!
At least, you could try to buy the domain first, and then insist that you need
money to maintain it, not just sign up for free webspace and place an ad on and expect
the money to come rolling in without really doing anything.
If you find a free webpage program that lets you place your own ads, then okay, cool.
But try to think first... you're really going to use Sailormoon as a topic and make
money from it? Maybe if it's a personal homepage and you want a domain, plus you've found
a real nice free hp program that let's you advertise, fine. Well, this little quick
complaint page was just written to tell those of you people who advertise and mention
all over your site telling people to click it so you get your domain... that you should
think a little about it. That's all. Good luck, to your site! ^_^ (BTW, do you think
www.m-squad.com sounds cool? ^_^; Just kidding!)
