M | This week: "Chaos in SMC" 7-22-98 I've joined the SM Community not long ago and I have to say it's the most chaotic one I've ever been in. The first time I came into the scene, there were already these wars about graphics and info theft, webmaster's/webmistress' attitude problems, competitions, constant cheating, etc. There was always something brewing up; it tends to get tiring and boring rather than exciting. Life in other anime communities is far different from this wild and racious one. Has anyone here ever been to the Witches 5 Undgeround Lab? Well, if anyone decides to drop by, you'd notice almost all their feature on flames and arguments are those from the SM Community, when the service they give is actually open for everyone even outside the anime neighborhood. First of all, the graphics theft. We have to understand and make adjustments when people say that they don't want you to take their graphics. This is because its darn difficult to make a creative and original BSSM site, and one of the limited ways to maintain those qualities is to hold on to the graphics--there are a hell of a lot people who are a sucker for colorful and pretty ones, you know. Most people who own these great graphics are not too huffy about their stuff, either. They usually ask for a small link AND credit--now is that too much to ask? Now stealing info/write-ups is a different matter. The victims try hard to belt out their ideas and they probably brainstorm for thoughts on how to make it presentable. Then someone out of nowhere copies and pastes the entire thing (word for word...grammar, spelling mistakes and all) on his own site--then gets credit for the good writing. That's not really fair, is it? To avoid arguments about this matter, better ask permission first :) I don't believe it's a hard thing to do. Thirdly, we have those snotty big-time SM site-makers who think poorly of newbies. I simply can't stand their egos just because they have these awards from prestigious sites and reviewers. These people are usually the ones who become competitive, and obviously try to outdo their so-called rival every so often. It's not fun...it's ANNOYING. And lastly, the cheating on ranking systems. I don't know why these people constantly cheat, when being number one on the ranking seems to prove nothing anymore. As of now, I can only hear stories of the old SM Community--a community of total peace and *cough* brotherhood. Is there a chance for those legends to come back?
